About Cavtatlady

My parents emmigrated from Croatia to the United States in the 1920s. I was born and raised in the USA and journeyed to the Dalmatian coast the first time in 1971. It felt so right that I knew someday I would live in Dubrovnik. It took me 37 years to reach this goal of living my love affair with the Dalmatian coast. Come savor the spirit of Dubrovnik that few visitors ever experience.

Dubrovnik Summer Festival 2016

The Dubrovnik Summer Festival opening ceremony was held last night in the Old City piazza in front of Sveti Vlaho Church and everyone was there. It seemed like the entire city population showed up and were joined by many guests who participate in this annual summer event.  Artists come from all over the world to perform during the next 45 days.  The rich program of classical music, dance performances, and theatre will be presented in seventy open air venues in the middle of this historic city.

This festival is one of the oldest in Croatia. Instituted in 1950, it has become one of Europe’s many significant summer events.  More than 60,000 guests are expected to attend this year from 10 July until closing night on 25 August for the culmination of watching our Libertas flag being raised as the entire ensemble of voices sing the Hymn of Freedom.

DBV festival 2016

The beginning of that glorious fun evening includes meeting old friends at one of our many local outdoor cafes.  My evening always ends with a glass of our Mrgudic red wine from the Bura winery on the Peljesac peninsula as the magnificent fireworks display, held over the twinkling lights of the Dubrovnik old harbor, is the grand finale.
